Who we are

          In the early 1990s, the Thai government sought to develop the debt market as an important alternative funding source aside from funding through existing fnancial institutions and the stock market. Thus, the idea of establishing a credit rating agency emerged. The Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Thailand promoted the establishment of a credit rating agency that would evaluate the creditworthiness of debt securities and assist investors in decision - making. The Industrial Finance Corporation of Thailand acted as the key institution, by order of the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Thailand, and founded Thai Rating and Information Services Co., Ltd. or “TRIS” in July 1993. TRIS was approved by the Offce of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Thailand’s frst credit rating agency and started the credit rating business on 27 July 1993.

          In 1995,TRIS expanded into the performance evaluation business, which extends the basic notion of credit rating. The purpose of performance evaluation is to promote effciency and improve the performance of an organization.

          TRIS was chosen by the Ministry of Finance to evaluate the performance of state - owned enterprises. This charter was later extended to governmental organizations under the responsibility of the Offce of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) in 2003.

          In June 2002, TRIS split itself into Thai Rating and Information Services Co., Ltd. (TRIS) and TRIS Rating Co., Ltd. TRIS Rating was set up to take care of the credit rating business as an independent frm while TRIS oversees the consulting services business. On the occasion of its 15th anniversary in July 2008, TRIS changed its name to TRIS Corporation Co., Ltd. (TRIS)

          TRIS now provides not only performance evaluation services, but also other business services and consulting in areas such as corporate governance, risk management, internal control, quality assurance review and audit, human resource management, organization restructuring, and survey and business research. What TRIS has accomplished is reflected through our customers trust and confdence, whether the customer is a governmental organization, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), a public company, a fnancial institution, or a large private company. TRIS believes that we are an important partner promoting the effciency, long - term growth, and competitiveness of Thailand’s public and private sectors.
